INTRODUCTION: A. I Corinthians 15:58 - “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not vain in the Lord.” B. Are you REALLY living like Christ? Are you dependable? Dependability is a must for the Christian in all areas of life!! To be stedfast and unmovable means that the Lord can count on us--that we are dependable. C. I Corinthians 10:31 - “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” I Corinthians 10:31 tells us that every aspect of our lives should be characterized by dependability. God is relying on depending upon His children to do and to be certain things in this world. D. My friends, God tells us many things that he wants us to do and to be. I want to discuss about five of them tonight. I. HE IS DEPENDING UPON HIS CHURCH TO TAKE THE WORD TO THE WORLD. A. Mark 16:15 - “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to the whole creation.” B. Matthew 28:19 - “Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” C. Yes, Jesus wanted us to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. You know that on the day of Pentecost just a short time after Jesus said these words that Peter would preach the first gospel sermon. Peter was privileged to preach the first gospel message. As you go through the book of Acts you can see where others preached the message of Jesus Christ. D. You and I may not can go into this vast world, but there is a part that we can play in teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. In Mark 16:15 literally in the Greek he said, as you are going about, preach the word. -- So we have a little bit of the world that we can help to get the gospel to. II. GOD IS DEPENDING UPON CHRISTIANS TO PROVIDE “SHOWCASE” HOMES (NOT HOUSES) FOR THE WORLD SO THEY CAN SEE LOVE, PEACE, JOY, HAPPINESS, AND TRUST AND TOGETHERNESS. A. Ephesians 5:22-6:4 B. Galatians 5:22-26 C. Colossians 3:18-24 III. THE LORD IS COUNTING ON CHRIST’S FOLLOWERS EXHIBITING CHRISTIANITY IN THEIR OCCUPATIONS AND PROFESSIONS--HONESTY AND “PRIDE” IN WORK THAT IS WELL DONE. A. Ephesians 6:5-9 - “Servants, be obedient unto them that according to the flesh are your masters, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; not in the way of eye service, as men-pleasers; but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; with good will doing service, as unto the Lord, and not unto men: knowing that whatsoever good thing each one doeth, the same shall he receive again from the Lord, whether he be bond or free. And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, and forbear threatening: knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no respect of persons with him.” B. Colossians 3:17 - “And whatsoever ye do, in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” IV. GOD IS DEPENDING ON HIS PEOPLE TO SET THE PROPER EXAMPLES OF PURITY, GODLINESS, AND CHRISTLIKENESS IN RECREATION AND PLEASURE ACTIVITIES. A. Titus 2:11-14 - “For the grace of God hath appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us, to the intent that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly and righteously and godly in this present world; looking for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a people for his own possession, zealous of good works.” B. Titus 3:8 - “Faithful is the saying, and concerning these things I desire that thou affirm confidently, to the end that they who have believed God may be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.” V. GOD IS EXPECTING THE FOLLOWERS OF CHRIST TO BE “THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD” AND “THE SALT OF THE EARTH” A. Matthew 5:13-16 - “Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost its savor, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out and trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a lamp, and put it under the bushel, but on the stand: and it shineth unto all that are in the house. Even so let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” B. I Peter 2:11,12 - “Beloved, I beseech you as sojourners and pilgrims, to abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; having your behavior seemly among the Gentiles; that, wherein they speak against you as evil-doers, they may by your good works, which they behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.” CONCLUSION: There are many more things that could be said about these and the other things that God would have us do, but do you see how God wants us to be and to do what God wants us to do? Yes, are you dependable, are WE dependable. Remember that dependability is a must for the Christian in every area of life. And so tonight I’m going to ask the all important question - Are you dependable? If not, then won’t you please consider your condition and come and make things right with God? |
