How About You?

INTRODUCTION:

A.  John 12:32 - “And I. if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto myself.”

B.  Jesus is a great redeemer, a great savior and if we are going to be saved we must come to him for salvation. Jesus was telling the people about his death. That he would die on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins.

C.  Let’s notice some things about Jesus.

I.  JESUS CHRIST WAS AN AMAZING PERSON.

A.  Not only was he the son of God, He was God

    1.  John 1:1-4 - “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him; and without him was not anything made that hath been made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.”

Verse 14 - “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father), full of grace and truth.”

    2.  John 3:16 - “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life.”

    3.  Micah 5:2 - “But thou, Bethlehem Ephrathah, which art little to be among the thousands of Judah, out of thee shall one come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting.”

B.  Not only did He come to earth, He was born to a relatively poor family in a backwards part of the world.

    1.  Matthew 1:18-25

    2.  Luke 2 - “The birth of Jesus”, “The naming of Jesus”, “Jesus in the temple”.

C.  Not only did He do good while on earth, He lived a perfectly sinless life.

    1.  Hebrews 4:15-16 - “For we have not a high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but one that hath been in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore draw near with boldness unto the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace to help us in time of need.”

    2.  II Corinthians 5:21 - “Him who knew no sin he made to be sin on our behalf; that we might become the righteousness of God in him.”

D.  Not only did He teach us good things, He taught us the most completely perfect way to live.

    1.  Matthew 5-7

    2.  Acts 10:38 - “Even Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power; who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”

II. WHILE ALL THESE THINGS ARE AMAZING, THEY AREN’T THE MOST AMAZING THINGS ABOUT HIM. THE THINGS ABOUT THE SON OF GOD THAT ATTRACTS MANKIND FROM EVERY WALK OF LIFE, EVERY CONTINENT AND NATION WAS HIS DEATH.

A.  He didn’t just die as so many other great men and women have. He was killed (allowing Himself to be sacrificed)

    1.  John 10:17-18 - “Therefore doth the Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I may take it again. No one taketh it away from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment received I from my Father.”

B.  He died on a cross (a horrible way to die) for the sins of mankind.

    1.  Romans 5:6-10 - “For while we were yet weak, in due season Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: for peradventure for the good man some one would even dare to die. But God commendeth his own love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, shall we be saved from the wrath of God through him. For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.”

    2.  II Corinthians 5:21 - “Him who knew no sin he made to be sin on our behalf; that we might become the righteousness of God in him.”

    3.  I John 2:1-2 - “My little children, these things write I unto you that ye may not sin. And if any man sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: and he is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for the whole world.”

    4.  Hebrews 2:11-15

C.  He died for you and me. That is why people are drawn to Him. He gave the ultimate sacrifice, though He didn’t have to, so that we could go to Heaven.

    1.  John 14:1-3 - “Let not your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I come again, and will receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”

    2.  I Peter 1:4 - “Unto an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you.”

CONCLUSION:

A.  So, what about you? Have you been drawn to Him? Have you devoted your life to His service? Have you obeyed His gospel to have your sins forgiven and added to His family? Have you shared His story with others lately?

B.  May the Lord help us to never forget the power and love, mercy and atonement, grace and judgment of the cross. May we be ever thankful for it, and live every day in its shadow.

C.  There is no time like the present to make our life right with God. So, if you are here tonight and need to respond to the gospel we hope that you will do just that and come as we stand and as we sing.
